Start with case erector compatibility
The first machine your corrugated box meets is the case erector. It pulls a flat blank, opens it, and folds the flaps. For reliable opening, the corrugated box must have proper score alignment. Scores should be deep enough to fold easily but not so deep that they crack. Most cardboard boxes fail here because scores are misaligned by more than 1 mm.
